centre:mk and MyMiltonKeynes Business Improvement District set to make UK’s first ‘Purple City Centre’, championing accessibility and inclusivity for Purple Tuesday

In celebration of Purple Tuesday, centre:mk collaborated with MyMK BID on Tuesday, 12 November, to shine a light on accessibility and inclusivity for people with disabilities seen and unseen in a step toward making Milton Keynes the UK’s first ‘Purple City centre’.

This year, local organisations and businesses will set up pop up displays throughout centre:mk to raise awareness about services and organisations offering support for people with disabilities and their families. These include:

  • PACA (Parents and Carers Alliance MK) – Supporting families caring for children and loved ones with disabilities
  • HK Hair and Wellness – Fully accessible hairdressing services
  • Spectrum Place & Umbrella Project – Raising awareness for autism and neurodivergent individuals
  • The Parks Trust – Making Furzton Lake more accessible
  • Camphill MK – Selling crafts made by adults with learning difficulties
  • Medical Detection Dogs – A charity that trains dogs to detect illnesses
  • MK Theatre - highlighting accessible performances and available resources
  • Spinal Injuries Association, Headway, Carers MK, and many more

Visitors also enjoyed live performances by “What’s The Drama” – a local organisation that provides creative coaching for adults with learning disabilities.

The day also marks the launch of our newly added sensory room located at Guest Services, offering a quiet and calming space for families to take a break. Find out more here
